Spring Is Coming!!

Feb. 29,2012 - Yea, we get an extra day to quilt this year. What a treat. Classes have been buzzing with new blocks each week as we build our Lynn Edwards sampler quilt. We are learning new techniques each week - some we like, others will be put on the shelf for the time being. All are enjoying hand quilting each block. and with practice we are getting better at it. Each block is more beautiful than the last and the variety of colors make each quilt unique. What a wonderful way to express out creativity!

Quilt Exhibition

Talent galore was on exhibit at The Barrack's in Falcarragh on Thursday and Friday as many members of the Sheephaven Guild and students at Green Acres Quilts showed their amazing quilts.

International Quilt Festival, Dublin, and Falcarragh's own show

It's been a busy few months at Green Acres Quilts. I've been all over the world, it seems, learning new skills and showing off the fabulous quilts from our homegrown talents.
In October I made my way to the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas. The workshops, talented quilters, and fantastic displays were really inspirational, and I'm sure will influence our next season of workshops offered here at Green Acres.

After a quick visit with my daughter Danielle, who lives in Texas, I flew back to the Knitting and Stitching show in Dublin, where quilters from all over visited many stands. This was a fabulous show, and well worth fighting the jet lag for, just to meet so many enthusiastic crafters. I will definitely take part again- just must remember not to spend all the proceeds on new materials!

To wind down 2011, I organised a wine & cheese exhibition with all of our fanulous quilters from Falcarragh and beyond. Thanks, in part, to the Co. Donegal VEC Community Education Support Programme, we are able to offer such a wide variety of workshops and classes for people of all ages here at Green Acres Quilts. We have not only learned new skills, but built a community of people who share their talent and inspiration every week, and I am grateful to be a part of such a lively artisitic community. The quilts and crafts on display showed real ingenuity and craftsmanship, and I am so proud of everyone who contributed. If you didn't get a chance to see the exhibition, pop into the shop in the new year, where you can find some inspiration of your own!
